Field Kitchen + Field Hospital
Field Hospital is a long-term project initiated by artist Andrew Merritt during his residency at Delfina Foundation in 2022, within the framework of the programme "Politics of Food". The project uses art, food, and historical/ecological research to restore damaged landscapes and rebuild relationships between people and place. The project unfolds in two interconnected phases — Field Kitchen and Field Hospital — reappropriating military mobile structures to respond to ecological "slow disasters". Field Kitchens and Field Hospitals create a network of regenerative spaces across different countries, including the UK, Mexico, South Africa and Italy. Each site is shaped by its local culture and environment, but all share the same aim: to envision new ways of living in harmony with the land, grounded in care, collaboration, and ecological responsibility. Field Hospital is developed by Looking Forward in partnership with the University of Cambridge. Current partners include the National Trust, Fundación Jumex Arte Contemporáneo, UNAM, British Council, Gaia Art Foundation and The Sustainability Institute.
