Camila Cañeque

Camila Cañeque (b.Spain, 1984) is a conceptual artist who lives and works in Girona and New York. Her artistic practice exposes the sphere of quietness, dysfunctional actions and absence as a response to a —thematically, environmentally, spiritually— exhausted society. Her performances and object-based works often evoke a phantasmagorical dimension. Her pieces have been shown or performed at SAC (Barcelona), CaixaForum (Barcelona), Pinta Miami (Miami), The Wall Gallery (NY), Glasshouse Project (NY), The Queens Museum of Art (NY), Hans & Fritz Contemporary, (Barcelona), Lázaro Galdiano Museum (Madrid), Vermelho Gallery (São Paulo), Microscope Gallery (NY),The Kitchen (NY), Kulturhuset Museum (Stockholm), among others.

Cañeque also participated in art residencies, such as: MANA CONTEMPORARY (New Jersey), Y Gallery (New York), Nau Estruch Space for Live Art (Sabadell), FABRA I COATS, (Barcelona), Largo das Artes (Rio de Janeiro) and Zentrum für Kunst und Urbanistik - ZK/U (Berlin). Her works appeared in numerous publications and online magazines, such as: Artsy, OFFICE magazine, PAC, El País, EMERGENCY INDEX (Ugly Duckling Presse), and so on. Her recent writings include the essay The forgetters published by BRUMARIA. She held workshops and lectures at SUNY (NY), Pompeu Fabra University (Barcelona) and CAN FELIPA (Barcelona) among other institutions. She completed her postgraduate studies in Contemporary British Literature at Oxford University (2007).
