On the 29th of January 2026, Looking Forward convened curators and cultural producers working at the intersection of art and ecology for a Feedforward session titled Curating in a Climate Crisis.

Bringing together practitioners working across institutional, independent and interdisciplinary contexts, the session created space to reflect collectively on what it means to curate amidst ecological collapse and how curators and cultural institutions might respond with care and imagination. This Feedforward session was hosted at Gasworks in London and convened by Francesca Fantoni, Assistant Curator at Looking Forward.

Participants reflected on the tension between urgency and slowness and how to meet the immediacy of the climate crisis while cultivating long-term, relational programming. Questions emerged around the role of institutions as both facilitators and boundaries; how to move beyond thematic programming towards ecosystemic thinking; and how artists, scientists and designers might build knowledge together rather than simply translating between disciplines.

The session was structured as a peer-to-peer exchange, prioritising open conversation over formal presentation. Contributions focused on lived professional experience, unresolved questions and shared challenges rather than finished projects or solutions.

With thanks to participants of the first session:

  • Abbie Adams: Future Observatory Curator, Design Museum.

  • Marleen Boschen: Adjunct Curator for Art & Ecology at the Hyundai Tate Research Centre: Transnational and Post-doctoral Research Fellow at the Royal Botanic Gardens, Kew.

The Feedforward series is a platform for research, dialogue, exchange and networking. These sessions bring together curators, practitioners and thinkers to discuss critical topics and explore opportunities for collaboration. Past sessions have examined creative wellbeing practices in London institutions, the legacy of slavery, socio-political dynamics in Tijuana, and cultural practices that bridge Morocco and Europe.
